Product Details

Glimpse Through The Cracks wall hanging was sewn over 18 hours. It was made through an intuitive process of sorting scraps and pairing them together and building larger squares from there. When I look at it I feel like I’m glimpsing some city scape in another dimension.

The Story:

I fell in love with botanical dyeing in 2015. As soon as I reconnected with quilting a couple years later, I started saving all my scraps. When I started this wall hanging, I originally was wanting to do a larger intuitive quilt but quickly realized that this type of working is next level time consuming and can get wildly off square very fast. I had been wanting to make some quilted pieces for hanging and decided to start there.

So these scrap pieces were dyed over many years with many different plants (all except the bright pink which was dyed with cochineal by an old friend). They are 100% cotton, along with the batting and the backing, which is dyed with rose leaves in an iron pot. The binding was dyed with the inner bark of a birch tree that fell by my parents’ house. It was quilted with a cotton/linen blend thread that was dyed with goldenrod in an iron pot. The stick it’s hanging on is a swamp maple sapling. The quilted piece measures 19”X27”.

Care Instructions:
