Hummingbirds are such amazing little creatures and need food early in the morning when they wake from their torpor. (Topor is kind of like hibernation.) This heater will ensure that the hummingbirds have food available in the morning when they wake when the nighttime temperatures are below freezing.

The heater is 3D printed using high quality materials and will last many years. The body is made of high strength PETG plastic and the black ring is made of resilient Polyurethane.

The heater should be on whenever temperatures are below freezing. If the heater is on when temps are above freezing the nectar may get too hot. An outlet timer like those used for Christmas lights, can be used to automatically turn it on and off if temps are above freezing during the day. The heater is effective to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-7 degrees Celsius) depending on the concentration of the nectar and feeder location. In very cold conditions the upper portion of the nectar may freeze. This is ok. The nectar near the bottom will still be thawed and available for the hummingbirds. The freezing also concentrates the nectar so it will provide more energy for them during the cold conditions.

The heater ships with a 7 watt and a 15 watt candelabra base C7 style bulb. The 15 watt bulb should be used when the temperatures are in mid 20’s or lower. Using the 15 watt bulb in above freezing temperatures may damage the heater and the feeder.

Installing the heater is as easy as placing the hooks on the perches where the birds sit on to feed and adjust the elastic cord using the adjustable cord clamp. Please note that the heater is designed to work with feeders that have perches. The heater may not be able to attach to feeders that do not have perches.

The heater is easily disassembled for cleaning. The light bulb with cord is quickly removed by squeezing the clip on the bottom and gently pulling. Once the light and cord are removed, it can be washed by hand with a mild soap and warm water. Hot water may cause damage.
