Our Mission at Mayhem Marketplace
Billionaires shouldn't exist. But they do, because they exploit workers. When it comes to creative fields, they exploit makers by taking a percentage of their profits, justifying it because their platforms are big and popular.
We believe that if you sell something for $100, you should get that $100. If you make a million dollars in sales, you should get a million dollars. That's your work, and you should be paid for it.
We believe that we should get paid for our work, too. But not 10% or 20% or 30% of your sales. Our work deserves $50 or $100 a year from you, and that's it. The percentage model lets money concentrate at the top, and we don't want that.
A Seller-First Platform
Our customers, how we make money, are the sellers and makers. Other platforms make their money on transactions, and importantly, that means they only care about their top earners.
Our sellers pay us equally; $5 or $10 a month, no matter how much they make. That means we listen to them equally, and balance all sellers' needs, not just the top earners.
For Social Good, Safety, and Security
Corporations have become more important than people in America, and more powerful than governments. We find this absurd. So we've decided to turn it against them. As we grow, we're planning on building a number of social safety nets for both our makers and our shoppers -- because apparently, it's up to us to build our own safety.
Over time, we'll be using our profits to build: a peer-to-peer emergency lending platform, a Mayhem credit card that lets us issue credit to anyone in emergency situations, a Mayhem Maker Credit Union, and emergency survival fund, and ultimately, banking services for our makers and shoppers.
Pricing Philosophy
If it costs us money to do, we charge for it. If it doesn't, we don't. It doesn't cost us money to deliver your video file to a customer (ok, it costs us a cent or two), so we don't take a percentage of transactions or a transaction fee. It does cost us money to process payments and issue payouts to you, doing tax paperwork, etc, so we build that into our monthly fee. We will continue to package as many tools into our two pricing tiers as possible (Basic and Standard), and keep costs as transparent and predictable as possible.
