This piece was created with steady focus and a clear intention. It is a modern interpretation of the ancient Menat, a ritual object used in Egyptian temple rites for thousands of years. Historically, the Menat was a beaded necklace with a weighted back piece that swung with the movement of the priest or priestess. It was used in ceremonies to bring blessings, renewal, and protection. The shaking of the Menat was believed to soothe the gods, call down favor, and restore spiritual balance. It also carried funerary meaning, guiding the soul through its transitions and honoring the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. This talisman draws from that structure while remaining fully modern and wearable.
The front carries a hand-burned walnut disc marked with the ankh, the ancient sign of life. Beneath it hangs a painted peacock eye, chosen for its connection to intuition and inner vision.
The long back drop is weighted with distressed rainbow hematite beads at the ends, giving the piece its weighted flow and allowing it to drape naturally down the spine when worn. This echoes the counterweight function of the ancient Menat while keeping the design slim and contemporary.
The necklace is strung with deep blues, matte gold, iridescent tones, and dark wood, creating a palette that feels both ancient and alive. Every element is balanced by hand, and the talisman has been ritually blessed as part of its creation.
Please note: Each pendant is drawn, burned and stained by hand. The tone and the drawn lines of the burnwork may vary slightly from piece to piece, though the design itself remains the same. This is part of the character of handmade work and ensures each talisman carries its own presence.
